“We need to protect life over property. We need to ensure that non-violent protest is permitted. To achieve this, we need agreements and accountability.” – Baltimore Uprising Coalition Action Statement
Demanding change in police practices, a coalition of protesters disrupted City Hall’s business as usual last night. The Baltimore Uprising Coalition — comprising the groups Youth as Resources, Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle, The West Coalition, City Bloc, Baltimore Algebra Project, Baltimore Bloc and Black EXCELLence — attended the confirmation proceedings for Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis and led the successful disruption, calling on city officials to move in a different direction.
The Maryland NLG stands in solidarity with the protesters. For more on the protest story click here.
