On September 19, 2022, in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Adnan Syed was dramatically released after serving 23 years in prison. His conviction for murder was vacated with the consent of the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s office, based on information showing that the prosecutors on the case did not share exculpatory evidence with Syed’s defense counsel. The defense attorneys for Syed’s first trial, which ended in a mistrial, were Chris Flohr and University of Maryland law professor Doug Colbert, who both have been involved with the National Lawyers Guild.
